About the role
We are a second controller, not a first: Finly's own books are closed on Finly every month, and the entity count has grown past what one person should carry alone. The unusual part of the job is that you are also our most demanding customer, and the product team reads what you write.
You would own the monthly close across two entities, the audit relationship, and the revenue recognition that comes with a subscription business. You would also file a bug the moment the product costs you an hour it did not need to, and see it argued about the same week.
What you'll do
- Own the monthly and annual close across the Dutch and Portuguese entities.
- Run revenue recognition, deferred revenue and the reconciliations underneath both.
- Own the audit relationship and the schedules it asks for.
- Keep VAT, intercompany and payroll journals correct in two jurisdictions.
- Report back to product on every place the close made you do something twice.
What you'll bring
- Four or more years in a controller or senior accountant role, at least one of them closing a multi-entity book.
- A qualification, or the practical equivalent, and fluency with IFRS or Dutch GAAP.
- Real experience of an audit from the inside — not just the schedules, but the questions.
- Comfort saying a number is not ready yet, to people who would prefer that it were.
- Working English; Dutch or Portuguese is useful and is not required.
Nice to have
- Closed a book in a SaaS or payments business.
- Have set up an entity, or moved one onto a new accounting system.
- Written a process document somebody else then followed without asking you anything.
